Business process automation example

Automating a multi-step admin process that previously relied on manual email handoffs.

Power AutomateOutlookSharePoint

The challenge

A routine internal request process depended on a chain of manual emails and spreadsheet updates between departments, which regularly caused delays and things falling through the cracks.

The solution

The handoffs were mapped end-to-end and rebuilt as an automated workflow, with automatic notifications and status tracking replacing the manual email chain.

The outcome

Removed several manual handoff steps and reduced processing time from days to hours.

What I learned

Mapping the process on paper first — before touching any tools — made it obvious which steps were genuinely necessary and which ones only existed because no one had questioned them.
