The challenge

A weekly report pulled data from multiple exports, each needing manual cleaning, reformatting and cross-checking before it was usable — a repetitive, error-prone task landing on one person's desk every week.

The solution

The cleaning and formatting steps were rebuilt as a repeatable Power Query workflow, with validation checks built in so obvious data errors were caught automatically instead of manually.

The outcome

Reduced a recurring 3-hour weekly task to under 15 minutes.

What I learned

Most 'we need an AI tool' requests are actually 'we need this manual process automated first.' Fixing the underlying workflow was more valuable than adding anything AI-branded on top.
