If you've spent any time on LinkedIn recently, you've probably seen the claim: 'AI employees are coming.' Digital workers. Autonomous agents. Entire departments replaced by software. It makes for a great headline. But it's also a slightly misleading one.

Every week the headlines feel louder. 'AI is taking jobs.' 'Automation is accelerating.' 'Entire roles will disappear.' But when you zoom in on what's actually happening inside companies, the story is more subtle and arguably more important.

It always feels like a juxtaposition. Me, someone whose dream is to have her own little farm, grow food properly, maybe keep a couple of Highland cows, also being deeply invested in artificial intelligence. So today we're asking the uncomfortable question: Is AI killing our planet?

When people talk about small business pressure in the UK, they usually mention rent, energy prices or tax. But there's a quieter cost that doesn't trend on LinkedIn. Admin. Not dramatic. Not controversial. Just expensive.

If you judged AI adoption by LinkedIn posts, you'd assume global enterprises were leading the charge. But this week's data tells a more interesting story. Small and mid sized businesses are implementing AI faster than large organisations.

Every few weeks, the same take pops up again: 'AI has peaked.' 'Usage is plateauing.' 'The hype cycle is fading.' But there's a problem with that story. Big Tech's spending behaviour tells a completely different one.

If you gave an AI powered model parenting instructions, would you allow it to raise your kids unsupervised? So why, when it comes to your business, do so many teams give AI so much authority with so little visibility or human oversight?

For the last year, the AI conversation has been stuck on the same question: Which model is better? But a quiet update this week exposed why that question is increasingly the wrong one and why Claude is starting to pull ahead in real workplace use.

When people think about dashboards, they usually think logic. Numbers. Accuracy. Filters. KPIs. What they don't think about is psychology. Or branding. Or the fact that dashboards influence behaviour in the same way adverts do.

If you've been on LinkedIn for more than five minutes recently, you've probably been told that AI agents are about to replace entire teams. I don't buy that. But I do think something genuinely useful has changed.
